The Milenium Development Goals are set targets adopted in september 2000 by the United Nationto be met by its members before 2015 with the aim of ridding the world off poverty.
   They represent the shared vision to eradicate poverty.At a time of abundant oil and gas wealth of Akwa Ibom state  there are still about half of her population  living in abject poverty.Akwa ibom state government should take steps in addressing these millenium development goals which are;
-eradication of extreme poverty;By providing loan to Small and medium scale industries.SME  is the largest employer of labour all over the world and if the government can oprovide funds to them by ensuring 1% of her budget is given as loans to them,to be administered by a Microfinance bank  
-achieve universal primary eucation;By making education free at primary and secondary level.With the high rate of poverty in the state parents cannot aford a three square meal for their children not to talk of sending them to school.I schooled in the Westen part of Nigeria and it is the practice of every State gov to declare education free at pry and sec level,with this practice, almost all the Yorubas are literates.Let us imbibe this practice so that we can hav a nobel laureate one day in Akwa Ibom state
-promote gender equality and women empowerment;Gender equality according to the world bank is equality under the law,equality of opportunities including reward for work,acess to human,financial and other productive resources that enable opportunity and equality of voice to influence and contribute to the developmental process.
  How can Akwa ibom state eradicate poverty and hunger by 2015 in the face of gender inequality,hence Gender equality should be promoted at all levels
-reduce child mortality,-improve maternal health-combat HIV,AIDS and other diseses;the provision of sustainable health care delivery has always  been the top on the list of priorities of sucessive government in Akwa Ibom State.Akwa Ibom state is widely recognised as a state with tremendous potentials to become the industrial hub of Nigeria because of its large human capital  rich oil and gas resources and undeveloped economic capacity,but years of bad leadership has trigered a crises situation in the social sector,of which the health sector has been worst hit and the health outcomes of people of Akwa Ibom state hav generally deteriorated.The government should carry out construction of a five star hospital on a public-private sector partnership to serve the health need of the people
-ensure environmental sustainability;The government should ensure there is reduction of gas flared by oil operators by embarking on LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS  projects on a public private sector baisi.
   Akwa Ibom is so blessed with oil and gas resources,and given the high rate of security in the state now .it is a plus for her to attract investors in all sectors of her economy.With the on going International Airport projects,the proposed Sea Port,the Private oil refineries,the proposed $10billion dollar LNG project and power plants and above all the new branch of Nigeria Stock Exchange.if all these projects are at their peak and with the prevailing state of security(thanks to a senior colleague, Gov Goodswil  Akpabio) Akwa Ibom state will live as kings and queens.
