Development abroad vs development at home:Important factors

Hello all,

I have done another research on the internet and other sources to understand better why the developed world is moving so fast compared to the states in Nigeria.

I was spurred by Petera who indicated a serious desire to see Akwa Ibom state develop far more than it has done now,and trying to compare the development of akwa ibom to that of the state of Georgia, where he resides.

My findings are as follows:

The Annual budget of the state of Georgia in 2006 is 16.4 billion dollars or multiplied by 125 exchange rate of dollars to naira, that is 2.05 trillion naira.

The annual budget of the Akwa Ibom state this year is 114 billion naira.

From the foregoing,it is obvious that the annual budget of Atlanta is 18 times bigger than that of Akwa Ibom state.

For a developed state already, that sounds very big considering that by defintion,a developed state may not have as many capital projects to startup like a developing state.

Of course they have a lot more population than we do,and that also plays a part in the budget amount, but if such a wide gap between these budgets persist for a period of many years,as has been the case, one will never be able to reasonably and geniunely expect development in one to be compared or explicitly visible like it is in the other.

It should be noted too that the Nigerian Budget for 2006 was 1.88 trillion naira.

This means that even the budget of the state of Georgia is 1.5 times bigger than the budget of the WHOLE OF NIGERIA,even when the population of Nigeria is FAR BIGGER than that of Georgia.

From the foregoing I have realised that given the type of governor in Akwa Ibom state, and the projects which he has started and completed, and projects which he has started and not completed,it would be reasonable to judge that he has performed excellently well in the circumstances, and that he would have done even more had it been he had access to even up to half the amount of budget that states in developed nations have access to.

I am just trying to introduce another point of view from which to look at the dvelopment of Akwa Ibom state, and what our expectations should be in comparison to the outside world.

Any one in doubt can check these informations out using the internet.

The above is the main reason why we have to join hands together and help the government to develop the state. This shows us that given the situation, government will not be able to do it alone and due to the limited amount of resources available to it.Even when we know that our resources combines together as people would still be below that of developed nations,we can at least do what we can.

There are many sons of Akwa Ibom who are well to do and who can either individually or together, help in one area or more of the development of our state.

I cannot go into these areas because I think they are obvious to any one interested enough to have a desire to help,I will leave it to individuals to think about what I have said and post some replies to which I may comment.

Since I have realised that highly educated individuals and by extension even rich ones do visit this forum, one of the reasons for this message is to expose the amount of help needed by the state from individuals.

Thank you.
